Cracking the Code

Hey everyone! I'm back from Fall break which means Second Quarter has officially started, and in Mr. Sanderls class, we're learning to code! First of all I think everyone should learn to code at least the basics. Our generation is supposed to be getting more advanced and if everyone learns to code that'll be a start. You can do so many things with coding, you can create, games, websites, animation, anything virtual with code! It doesn't take geniuses to code,  it's pretty simple. You could say it's kind-off like learning a new language.

My First experience EVER with code was last year  (5th grade) on Khan Academy.
my class would go on Khan Academy frequently, and I was searching for a new thing to do so I tried out a hour of code and it was a little confusing but I got the hang of it. I wrote every command down to remember it and practice it. But I never really went over it. Then just recently in Mr. Sanderl's class we did a mini coding game which was pretty easy to start everyone off, but instead of writing commands like I did on Khan Academy, we dragged and dropped boxes into orders.

At the very end of coding, we got to make our own game! I used all of the characters given
(Baymax, Elsa, Anna, Hiro, and Rapunzel.) My game was the player controlling elsa to tag all the characters. Whenever you got tagged by elsa you would dissapear.  It was basically a game of tag. The way I created the game was simply by placing the blocks in the work space.

My Humorous Monologue

Hey everyone! Today in Mr. Sanderl's Class, were doing a project called Comedic Monologue. We have learned so much from this project! For example, learning how to use the cameras properly and taking full responsibility, learning how to pad (which i'll explain later!) using iMovie properly, importing the videos with out destroying them, making duplicate layers and placing the monologue on the bottom and the edited videos on the top, we also learned how to get audio and good sound for our monologue. Our project is graded by quality, if you have creative angels, nice music, funny monologue and clear audio your sure to get a good grade! But if your audio is noisy, we cant hear what your saying, the B-roll is dark or blurry, or you just didn't finish your Comedic Monologue then you wont get the highest grade.

Now let me tell you about pad. Padding is a technique used for filming. This technique helps make sure that when you start or finish to record your video/audio doesn't get cut off. Here's how you do it: First press the recording button to start recording and say "Action!" and wait three seconds before you start talking to the camera or actually doing actions. Then when your done doing everything in your video say "Cut!" and wait three more seconds then press the record button to stop recording. Now you might be thinking Well I don't want all this extra seconds when I upload my video! The solution to that is to edit it out using iMovie or another editing program. It is very crucial that you pad or else you could cut yourself off and then have to redo the whole video (which takes a lot of time!) Plus Mr. Sanderl will be mad at you, so make sure to pad your clips!

My weakness in this assignment was not to criticize each and every little thing and to just go with the flow. Audio was another big struggle, making sure there's no wind, no people talking in the background and also making sure you don't mess up your words! When I was filming my B-roll the video kept getting dark! I had to redo it over and over again until I got the perfect lighting. Don't forget about the last few minutes of editing! Making sure your visuals match with what your saying at the same time, I had to slow-mow a video because it was going too fast! My strengths were keeping everything organized and getting all the clips in before it was to late, and coming up with other ways to do things if the first try didn't work out. My tips are when you are recording your Monologue speak clearly and loud. (but don't yell) Always take extra clips or record extra just in case you need more or the original clips get deleted, make sure it makes sense! If no one can understand it no one will laugh, And one of the most important tips of all..... have fun!
That's all for now be sure to check for more post! -Kaile :P
