Scratch Game Design

My scratch games.
Hi Everyone! Did you have a good Thanksgiving? I hope so. Last week in my G.T class we made our very first scratch game! Scratch is a website that you can use code to create games, animation, quizzes and many more! When I created this game I thought about what the viewers might enjoy. So I picked the unicorn because who doesn't love unicorns? and, the reason why I made the gamer collect tacos to win is because tacos are my favorite food so why not! While coding my unicorn sprite to chase the main sprite, I thought about how the game shouldn't be impossible to win but yet having a little bit of a challenge. By adding music to my game, I think that it draws my audience in more so they want to play the game more often! Same with my sound effects and my sprites talking. After you score 15 points you win! So while creating the celebration part of my game, I wanted to make the gamer feel special when they won. ( By adding a party background with celebration music!) Overall, most of my decisions made for the game were based around what the players might enjoy. Hope you enjoy the game!

In both of my games the sprites that the player controls is with the arrow keys. Although, for my operation freedom game I might use the mouse instead of arrow keys. Both of my games have "enemy" characters. They both have a "YOU WIN!" backdrop at the end. My Chase game plays music, but my platformer doesn't. (only at the very end) In both games you have to touch a certain object to earn points, and both can lose points if touched by something else. The platformer games backdrops is drawn by me, the opposite with the chase. On the other hand, I drew a sprite in both of those games. (The tacos and the angry blocks) In the platformer game, you can get game over and there is a game over backdrop (drawn by me) yet in my chase game there is not. The platformer game has multi levels, though my chase game doesn't. They both have variables, they both can fly or walk, both have characters not controlled by the player, and they both have the sprites say things.
Whew! That was a lot of comparing. Make sure to check me on scratch ---> kailesmiley

My best code was probably making multiple characters (in the platformer game) move at the same time, making them hide, or making my unicorn chase my pony at a certain pace. Both of my games I had struggles with because their were either glitching or just wouldn't work. I would get frustrated because the game was due and It wouldn't work, but it all ended up working at school. (which was really weird!) My chase and platformer games were very fun to make and it took a while but I got very used to scratch code. The coding was pretty simple and I'm definitely up to more challenging scratch games! Adding music to my chase game was really difficult. I was sure I was using the right code but for random reasons it would not work! (this is one of the times I got confused and frustrated) so I had to keep trying it over and over and over x 10 to get it work!

Invention Commercial

Our teams main goal is to make people believe in our product, for our commercial to be funny, and to have a good time making our commercial! In iMovie editing is crucial. We have to make sure everything is fantastic! Fantastic transitions, editing, audio (really important not to make it scratchy!) We really want to have good responses from our classmates which as you can see in one of my screen shots (the yellow, green and purple) that we did get some good responses! I wanted to make sure our commercial made sense and that people could understand why this is happening and not make our commercial to jumpy. I hope people enjoy our video because my group spent a lot of time editing it.
Meah, Danielle, and I had a lot of fun, but one of our best team moments was when we were finished with all of our filming and we played on the trampoline the whole time while also playing games of "volleyball." One team would go on the trampoline while the other team stood on the ground. We would throw a beach ball over the trampoline without it hitting the ground. The team who keeps the ball up for longer without having touch the ground wins!

My team did a lot of editing, First, we would add in the basics and change anything if needed. I was on the computer the most while Meah and Danielle are giving ideas. We decided to do it on my computer because I was absent the least.
We all did equal editing and we are very proud of our video!

Composition Scavenger Hunt

Hey everyone, I'm back with another blog post! This week in Mr. Sanderl's class we are learning the 20 Composition techniques and we made a video for it!  I think the most important Composition technique is Unusual angle because it lets the photographer get creative and it can basically be any new angle! For me it just sparks up the whole film because it's a whole new angle that you probably never seen before!

Which one is the most difficult you ask? In my opinon I think it's Leading Lines because you have to make sure the lines come from the point of view from the camera, the lines have to be clear or else viewers won't agree that it's leading lines. Another reason why I think Leading Lines is the most difficult is because you have to use object from the world around you and you have to make sure the lines lead straight to you and not anything else.

My Teammates for this project are Danielle and Meah. Danielle did some of the filming and made sure we knew what we were saying. Meah did most of the speaking and filming. I did all the editing, some of the filming, and gave some ideas. Danielle was a nice (but a little shy) and let Meah and I be in most of the scenes, she's a nice partner and supports the team. Meah is active, and has good ideas, If you watched the video you can see that she did a lot of hand gestures to support what she was saying. (which made the film more interesting.) Overall I'm happy I chose them to be my partners, and can't wait for our next project!

Cracking the Code

Hey everyone! I'm back from Fall break which means Second Quarter has officially started, and in Mr. Sanderls class, we're learning to code! First of all I think everyone should learn to code at least the basics. Our generation is supposed to be getting more advanced and if everyone learns to code that'll be a start. You can do so many things with coding, you can create, games, websites, animation, anything virtual with code! It doesn't take geniuses to code,  it's pretty simple. You could say it's kind-off like learning a new language.

My First experience EVER with code was last year  (5th grade) on Khan Academy.
my class would go on Khan Academy frequently, and I was searching for a new thing to do so I tried out a hour of code and it was a little confusing but I got the hang of it. I wrote every command down to remember it and practice it. But I never really went over it. Then just recently in Mr. Sanderl's class we did a mini coding game which was pretty easy to start everyone off, but instead of writing commands like I did on Khan Academy, we dragged and dropped boxes into orders.

At the very end of coding, we got to make our own game! I used all of the characters given
(Baymax, Elsa, Anna, Hiro, and Rapunzel.) My game was the player controlling elsa to tag all the characters. Whenever you got tagged by elsa you would dissapear.  It was basically a game of tag. The way I created the game was simply by placing the blocks in the work space.

My Humorous Monologue

Hey everyone! Today in Mr. Sanderl's Class, were doing a project called Comedic Monologue. We have learned so much from this project! For example, learning how to use the cameras properly and taking full responsibility, learning how to pad (which i'll explain later!) using iMovie properly, importing the videos with out destroying them, making duplicate layers and placing the monologue on the bottom and the edited videos on the top, we also learned how to get audio and good sound for our monologue. Our project is graded by quality, if you have creative angels, nice music, funny monologue and clear audio your sure to get a good grade! But if your audio is noisy, we cant hear what your saying, the B-roll is dark or blurry, or you just didn't finish your Comedic Monologue then you wont get the highest grade.

Now let me tell you about pad. Padding is a technique used for filming. This technique helps make sure that when you start or finish to record your video/audio doesn't get cut off. Here's how you do it: First press the recording button to start recording and say "Action!" and wait three seconds before you start talking to the camera or actually doing actions. Then when your done doing everything in your video say "Cut!" and wait three more seconds then press the record button to stop recording. Now you might be thinking Well I don't want all this extra seconds when I upload my video! The solution to that is to edit it out using iMovie or another editing program. It is very crucial that you pad or else you could cut yourself off and then have to redo the whole video (which takes a lot of time!) Plus Mr. Sanderl will be mad at you, so make sure to pad your clips!

My weakness in this assignment was not to criticize each and every little thing and to just go with the flow. Audio was another big struggle, making sure there's no wind, no people talking in the background and also making sure you don't mess up your words! When I was filming my B-roll the video kept getting dark! I had to redo it over and over again until I got the perfect lighting. Don't forget about the last few minutes of editing! Making sure your visuals match with what your saying at the same time, I had to slow-mow a video because it was going too fast! My strengths were keeping everything organized and getting all the clips in before it was to late, and coming up with other ways to do things if the first try didn't work out. My tips are when you are recording your Monologue speak clearly and loud. (but don't yell) Always take extra clips or record extra just in case you need more or the original clips get deleted, make sure it makes sense! If no one can understand it no one will laugh, And one of the most important tips of all..... have fun!
That's all for now be sure to check for more post! -Kaile :P

Comedy Writing

Having a sense of Humor is a very important characteristic because if your trying to make a joke or share a laugh you wouldn't understand what makes everyone laugh and what doesn't. You'll only get a couple of laughs instead of the whole crowd. Plus having a sense of humor allows you to bond with people more. If you can't have a sense of humor you'll always be taking things too seriously and never loosen up. Being able to loosen up can relieve stress and make you feel better. So give a laugh!

Here's some tips for writing a funny paragraph. Make sure to make it relatable so when people hear your joke they'll laugh! Don't add anything that might offend someone or else it could make them mad or sad. Be yourself, Be comfortable, and have fun. If your not having fun no one else will. When your saying your joke add some hand moves or do a funny voice. You'll have more of a chance to make them laugh. Last but not least know your joke by heart! The smoother you say it the easier it'll be for people to understand instead of stammering and not knowing what to say next.

My comedic monologue is about when the WiFi goes out and what happens/how people feel during it. I came up with the idea because I have experienced the WiFi going out a lot and it can be so annoying! I think it's funny because it recently happened so people can relate. It compares one thing to another like a minion without bananas. It can be over dramatic which can be very funny, and everyone hates it when the WiFi goes out! A lot of people has played that dinosaur jumping game when the WiFi goes out so they know what i'm talking about! Plus Everyone has that moment where they secretly enjoy the WiFi being out.

That's all for now! Be sure to check my next blog post!

See ya! -Kaile :)

Motivational Poster

In Mr. Sanderl's Class Today we have to make a Motivaional Poster; The requirements are we need 2 text Layers One for our Manifesto and the Other for Personal Quotes. Then we need 4 imagine layers 3 of our #gtsym1 2, and 3 and 1 of my     face! We also need to Kern our letters (Click KERNING for definition) have a Triadic color scheme, and visual balance.
Here's how I did it: First I made a set of Personal Quotes and Sayings and put that into my Finder, Then I got my #gtsym1, 2, and 3 photos and added that as well to finder, Next I put all of my Quotes, sayings and pictures into one Photoshop file, After that I arranged the photos for a Visual balance and I Kerned my letters, Later I gave my letters some character by adding color and glow to it, Last I made sure everything looked nice and saved it!
The main struggles was kerning and my advice is to just push through it, and at the last day everyone was rushing and In a panic to get everything in and so was I, so just be calm and patient and make sure to press that Save button! Your first time won't always be perfect but the more you practice the better you get!
